For this painting I decided to do lures arranged on a deck. For the background I decided to do acrylic. I thought it would be easier because the wood wouldn't blend together, and it would dry completely before I did the lures. For the lures I used oil. I had never used oil before so it was difficult to get used to the paints blending in the canvas. It was difficult at first, but later on it made it easier to blend colors and values together.overall I'm really happy with the finished product.
For the reflection project I decided that I wanted to draw the clouds reflecting off of sunglasses. I took a picture of sunglasses on my face then combined it with other pictures of clouds to make a more interesting picture. For my first sketch I just wanted to lay out the drawing and play with the colors. While doing this I realized that I needed warmer colors in the skin, and that the black was too harsh for the trees. For my final sketch I spent a lot more time deciding which colors worked best for my skin tone, and playing with the glare of the sun on the sunglasses. I took my time layering light layers of color pencil, so the skin looked smooth and more life-like. On my final I decided to draw the ears covered up with hair which gave me more room to show the different values in the hair. I tried to push the darker values while still keeping the blonde highlights. I also pushed the darker values around the nose, under the glasses, and on the side of the face. Overall I am happy with the piece, but if I could do it again I would make the sunglasses a more square shape that better fit the face in the picture. |
